MaxSize Element for FileSpec (ICF)

Specifies the maximum size to which the database file can grow.

Syntax

<Database>
    <NamedFileGroup>
        ...
        <FileSpec>
            ...
            <MaxSize>

Unrestricted file growth.

Optional once per FileSpec element.

Cannot be modified when updating the instance.

Remarks

You can use the kilobyte (KB), megabyte (MB), gigabyte (GB), or terabyte (TB) suffix. The default is MB. Specify a whole number; do not include a decimal.

If MaxSize is not specified, the file grows until the disk is full.

If you want to alter the instance database after creating the instance, use the SQL Server tools, such as SQL Server Management Studio.

Example

This example shows how to specify a maximum database file size of 20 MB:
