Installing Sample Integration Services Packages

Installing samples is a two-step process. First, the stand-alone Microsoft Windows Installer is installed when you use Setup as part of installing SQL Server 2005, or later by using the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Maintenance Wizard. After the stand-alone Windows installer is installed on the local hard disk drive, the samples can then be extracted using the Windows installer. The samples use the AdventureWorks and AdventureWorksDW databases. The databases must also be installed, and you must have attached and have administrative permissions on the databases.

To obtain the latest version of the samples, including new samples released after the original release of SQL Server 2005, see SQL Server 2005 Samples and Sample Databases (April 2006).

To install the samples and sample databases using the Windows installer

  1. On the Components to Install page, click Advanced.

  2. On the Feature Selection page, expand Documentation, Samples, and Sample Databases, and then select the Entire feature will be installed on local hard drive option for Databases and Samples. If samples were not installed during the Setup program, see Running Setup to Install AdventureWorks Sample Databases and Samples.

Run Setup from the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Maintenance Wizard again to install the samples.

To install samples using the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Maintenance Wizard

  1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

  2. Double-click Add or Remove Programs.

  3. In the Add or Remove Programs dialog box, click Microsoft SQL Server 2005, and then click Change.

  4. In the SQL Server 2005 Maintenance Wizard, click the To install a new component, click here link, and in Insert Installation Media dialog box, type the path of setup.exe or click Browse to locate setup.exe.

  5. To run Setup again, double-click setup.exe.

  6. On the Components to Install page, click Advanced.

  7. On the Feature Selection page, expand Books Online and Samples, and then select the Entire feature will be installed on local hard drive option for Samples.

After the samples Windows installer has been installed, extract the samples.

To install Integration Services samples using the stand-alone Windows installer

  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft SQL Server 2005, point to Documentation and Tutorials, point to Samples, and then click Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Samples.

  2. On the Welcome to the InstallShield Wizard for Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Samples page, click Next.

  3. If you agree to the terms of the license agreement, select I accept the terms in the license agreement and then click Next.

  4. On the Destination Folder page either click Next or update the destination folder. We recommend that you click Next and install the samples to the default location. By default, samples are installed onto the local hard disk drive, to the following location:

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Samples\Integration Services\Package Samples

If the default location is appropriate, click Next.

    Warning

We recommend that the default installation location of the samples be used. If a location other than the default is used, you may have to manually modify sample package contents to reflect this change.

  5. To continue with the installation of the samples, click Install.

  6. After the installation is complete, click Finish.
