Microsoft SQL Server Compact 4.0 has a group of new features, including a new scenario where SQL Server Compact 4.0 can be used as a database for ASP.NET Web applications and Web sites. SQL Server Compact 4.0 provides an easy and simple to use database storage for starter Web sites and is a free, easy-to-use, lightweight, and embeddable version of SQL Server 2008 R2. 

With SQL Server Compact 4.0, you can develop both desktop and Web applications in Visual Studio. SQL Server Compact 4.0 is also integrated with the Microsoft Webmatrix, which is a stack of Web technologies for easily developing and deploying Web sites on the Windows platform.
