How to: Synchronize an Analysis Services Database

The Synchronize Database Wizard makes two Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services (SSAS) databases equivalent by copying the data and metadata from a source server to a destination server. This wizard can also be used to deploy a database from a staging server onto a production server, or to synchronize a database on a production server that has changes made to the data and metadata in a database on a staging server.

To synchronize an Analysis Services database in SQL Server Management Studio

  1. In Object Explorer, navigate to the Databases folder.

  2. Right-click the folder, then click Synchronize.

  3. In the Synchronize Database Wizard dialog box, type the name of the source server and source database in the appropriate fields. Click Next.

  4. Optionally, change location for local partition and click Next.

  5. Choose the security synchronization method you want and click Next.

  6. Click Finish to synchronize. After verifying the options on the Completing the Wizard page, click Finish again.
