How to: Enable or Disable Writeback for a Partition

You configure writeback for a partition using the Partitions view in Cube Designer, which is accessed from Business Intelligence Development Studio.

Before you can enable writeback, the partition must be in a processed state. In addition, only partitions whose measures use the Sum aggregate function can be write-enabled. For more information about partition processing, see Partitions (Analysis Services).

For more information about writeback, see .Setting Partition Writeback.

To enable writeback for a partition

  1. Open the cube that contains the partition that you want to write-enable.

  2. In the Cube menu, point to View, and then click Partitions.

  3. Expand the group containing the partition that you want to write-enable, right-click the partition, and then click Writeback settings.

  4. In Write enable - <Partition Name>, either type a name for the writeback table and specify a data source, or accept the defaults.

  5. Click OK. The new writeback table will appear in the list of partitions under the original partition.

When you disable writeback for a partition, the writeback data becomes inaccessible and the measure group on which the partition is based becomes read-only.
