How to: Install SQL Server Express Toolkit

This topic describes how to install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Toolkit (SQL Server Express Toolkit).

To install SQL Server Express Toolkit

  1. To start the installation, double-click sqlexpr_toolkit.exe.

    Note

    SQL Server Express Toolkit is available as a self-extracting executable file (sqlexpr_toolkit.exe) from the SQL Server Express Web site. The sqlexpr_toolkit.exe file installs on x86-based computers and to the 32-bit subsystem (WOW64).

  2. On the End User License Agreement page, read the license agreement, select the I accept the licensing terms and conditions check box, and then click Next.

  3. The Installing Prerequisites page installs the software that is required before you install SQL Server Express. Click Next.

    Important

    The Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 is not installed when SQL Server Component Update runs, but SQL Server Express Toolkit Setup requires the .NET Framework 2.0 to be installed before you run sqlexpr_toolkit.exe. If the .NET Framework 2.0 is not installed, you will experience an error. Make sure that you uninstall all earlier versions of the .NET Framework and install the .NET Framework 2.0. from the .NET Framework 2.0 Download Center before you start SQL Server Express Toolkit Setup.

  4. The Welcome to the Microsoft SQL Server Installation Wizard page appears. Click Next.

  5. When the System Configuration Check page appears, the computer is scanned for potential installation problems. To interrupt the scan, click Stop. To continue with setup after the scan finishes, click Next.

  6. On the Registration Information page, enter information in the Name and Company text boxes. Click Next.

  7. On the Feature selection page, select the program features to install. Click Next.

    Note

    You can expand a feature to view its subfeatures by clicking the "+" symbol. If you want to install all the components that are available under every available feature in the Feature Tree, click the arrow next to the feature and select Entire feature will be installed on local hard drive.

  8. On the Error and Usage Report Settings page, select whether to turn on error reporting and usage reporting for SQL Server and its components. Click Next.

  9. On the Ready to Install page, click Install to finish installing SQL Server.

  10. On the Setup Progress page, you can monitor installation progress as setup proceeds. Click Next.

  11. On the Completing the Microsoft SQL Server Installation Wizard page, you can view the setup summary log by clicking the link provided on this page. To complete the SQL Server Installation Wizard, click Finish
