Power BI for Office 365 is a business intelligence service for sharing, managing, and consuming data queries and Excel workbooks that contain data queries, data models, and reports.

Microsoft Excel and Office 365 are separate offerings and are not included in Power BI for Office 365. Excel users with Office 365 ProPlus or Office Professional Plus 2013 can use the built-in capabilities of Power Query, Power Pivot, and Power View to search for, import, shape, and merge data, as well as to create in-memory data models, interactive reports, and visualizations. Power BI for Office 365 allows you to publish Excel workbooks and data sources in a secure, collaborative online environment.

Business intelligence service purchased as a standalone offering. This subscription option includes SharePoint Online Plan 2 and Yammer.

Business intelligence service purchased as an add-on for SharePoint Online Plan 2.

Use Power BI sites to share, view, and interact with Excel workbooks in a dynamic and collaborative online environment. You can render workbooks up to 250 MB in Excel Online. Learn more about Power BI sites.

The Data Management features in Power BI for Office 365 enable business users and data experts to connect to a wide variety of public and corporate data sources. You can transform data into the shape you want and then use Power Query to securely share that data within your enterprise from the familiar environment of Excel. The Data Management Gateway provides access to on-premises data sources in your organization. Learn more about Data Management Gateway.

With Power BI Q&A, you can use natural language queries to find answers in your own data. Q&A presents answers to your queries in the form of visualizations. As you type a question, Q&A picks the best visual to display your answer, and the image changes dynamically as you refine or expand your question. Learn more about Q&A.

The Power BI Admin Center is a portal for IT administrators to manage Power BI for Office 365 for their enterprise. From the Admin Center, you can manage data sources, users, queries, usage analytics, and so on. In the Power BI Admin Center, you can register on-premises data sources with Power BI for Office 365; enable OData feed for the data sources and select tables or views to be included in the feed; and allow Excel workbooks stored in SharePoint Online to be refreshed with data from on-premises data sources. With the Power BI app, you can consume Excel and Power View content on any Windows 8, 8.1, or Windows RT tablet or PC, including the Surface. Upload your Excel workbooks to SharePoint Online, and then connect to the cloud with the Power BI app to discover, explore, and share the business intelligence in your workbooks.
