Summary: Learn how to troubleshoot “unhandled exception” error messages that people might see when they try to use Database Compare.
Database Compare is installed automatically as part of Office 2013 Professional Plus. However, certain prerequisite components are not installed automatically, which can cause people to see an “unhandled exception” error message when they try to use Database Compare.
When people attempt to use Database Compare, they receive the following error message:
Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately.
Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.ReportViewer.WinForms, Version=184.108.40.206, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.
In addition to .NET Framework 4.0, Database Compare requires .NET Framework 2.0 and Microsoft Report Viewer 2008 to be installed on the computer. These applications are not installed automatically, even though Database Compare is installed automatically as part of Office 2013 Professional Plus.
Install .NET Framework 2.0 and Microsoft Report Viewer 2008, and then restart the computer. The following procedure contains links to the necessary components.
|Before you begin the following procedure, make sure that you are logged into the user’s computer as an administrator.|
On the user’s computer, open a web browser, and visit Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2.
Download and install Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2.
Open a web browser, and visit Microsoft Report Viewer Redistributable 2008.
Download and install Microsoft Report Viewer Redistributable 2008.
Restart the computer.
After you follow these steps, a user should be able to use Database Compare.
