Windows High-Speed Networking (HSN) provides technologies that allow you to use specialized networking hardware to eliminate the system performance bottlenecks that are frequently associated with network packet processing. By using HSN features, you can cost effectively scale your network-based applications, optimize server performance, and maximize network throughput.
You can optimize network performance by using stateful hardware offloads, stateless hardware offloads, and kernel bypass techniques that are provided by the many technologies included in HSN. These technologies include Network Interface Card (NIC) Teaming, Receive-Side Scaling (RSS), TCP Chimney Offload, Data Center TCP, Virtual Machine Queue (VMQ), and Network Direct Memory Access (NetDMA). The HSN technologies that are available to you depend on the Windows Server operating system that you are using. In addition, some of these technologies require network hardware that supports the technology, and in some cases the technology must be enabled in the Basic Input-Output System (BIOS) of your server computer.
