Before You Begin with Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007

Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 offers significant enterprise capabilities that require planning and validation to configure correctly for your needs. It is a complex product with many changes over prior versions.

We recommend three actions to support your successful deployment:

  1. Prepare, by reading the product documentation in the technical library and by completing the training courses and certifications available.
  2. Engage partners to help you with your deployment. SharePoint Deployment Planning assistance is available to qualified customers.
  3. Run a pilot. Start small, with a proof of concept site, and then pilot it with a select few teams or groups. Test the solution thoroughly with this small group before rolling it out to your entire organization.

For developer information, see the Getting Started section of the Software Development Kit.

Prepare

Complete the available training courses and pass the appropriate Technical Specialist certification for your job role. Experience with prior versions is helpful but does not give the required skills.

Read the planning documentation in the technical library and complete the steps in the planning worksheets.

Review the white paper SharePoint Server 2007 deployment guide and checklists for checklists to help you manage each stage of your deployment along with product overviews and reference material.
