Microsoft Office 2010 Beta Key Management Services (KMS) Host Setup
If your organization is deploying Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 Beta to five or more computers, consider using Key Management Service (KMS) as a solution for product activation.
With KMS, you can complete activations on your local network, eliminating the need for individual computers to connect to Microsoft for product activation. KMS is a lightweight service that does not require a dedicated system and can easily be co-hosted on a system that provides other services. You can activate your Beta versions of Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010, Microsoft Project 2010, and Microsoft Visio 2010 using the same Office KMS host.
This page describes setting up a KMS host. For more information about volume activation for Microsoft Office 2010, see the Volume Activation resource center.
Setting up your KMS host
Step 1:
Identify one computer to be your KMS host. The host computer must be running one of the following operating systems:
- Windows 7 (Volume Edition)
- Windows Server 2008 R2
- Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2)
Step 2:
Download the Microsoft Office 2010 KMS Host License Pack to the KMS host computer, and then run the downloaded file KeyManagementServiceHost.exe.
Step 3:
When prompted, enter KMS host key FKK3H-JQ76C-PGQJ7-64GY6-X2VC8, and then click OK.
Important:
- Use this product key to activate the KMS host computer for your evaluation of Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 Beta.
- This product key cannot be installed on Office client products.
- Do not enter Multiple Activation Keys (MAKs) for the applications that you want to activate with your KMS host.
- When this key is entered and activated, the Office KMS host can activate Office 2010 Beta client products. You will need to enter a new key to activate Office 2010 client products that have been officially released.
Step 4:
On the KMS host computer, open port 1688 and allow KMS through the firewall. To do this on Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2:
- Open Control Panel and click Windows Firewall.
- Click Allow a program through Windows Firewall.
- Click Change Settings.
- Select the Key Management Service check box, and then click OK.
Step 5:
Note: If you have a DNS server, you do NOT need to perform this step.
On a network computer that has Office 2010 Professional Plus already installed (see Step 6 for the download link if needed), run cscript ospp.vbs -sethst:hostname where hostname is the name of the KMS host (the computer on which you ran KeyManagementServiceHost.exe).
This script can be found in your installation directory (e.g., C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14).
Step 6:
On the other network computers, download Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 Beta and install the Office 2010 applications. Once there are five computers with Office Professional Plus 2010 installed on the network (five KMS client computers), those and subsequent computers installed on the network will automatically activate against the host. No further action is required on your part.
Important:
- If you download and install volume editions of Microsoft Project Professional 2010 Beta or Microsoft Visio Premium 2010 Beta, they will also activate against your KMS host. No product key entry is required. You will not need to perform any additional steps to activate these products after you install them.
- No product key entry is required for KMS client computers (the computers on which you installed Office Professional Plus 2010).
- Do not enter a product key on KMS clients.
- It is not recommended that you set up your pre-release Office 2010 KMS host on a production host currently used to activate Windows. For more information about options to activate Windows and Office together, see Activate KMS clients in Office 2010 in the technical library.
- For more information, see the Volume Activation resource center.
