SMS 2003 Device Management Feature Pack

Now with support for Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC and Windows Mobile Pocket PC Phone Edition 5.0

Companies worldwide are using mobile devices to accelerate business cycles, increase productivity, reduce operating costs, and extend their infrastructure. With this growing reliance on mobile devices, it is critical for administrators to understand their mobile environment, to ensure users set up secure corporate access, and to deliver new business capabilities while utilizing existing infrastructure investments.

The SMS 2003 Device Management Feature Pack allows SMS 2003 to manage mobile devices running Windows CE (3.0 or later) and Windows Mobile software for Pocket PCs (2002 or later) with updated support for Windows Mobile 5.0 and Windows Mobile Pocket PC Phone Edition 5.0. The Device Management Feature Pack allows IT administrators to capture the asset characteristics, configure settings and security policies of mobile devices, and update or deploy new applications with minimal interruption to the user, dramatically reducing the cost of deploying and managing devices.

The Device Management Feature Pack provides the following capabilities:

  • Hardware inventory

  • Software inventory

  • File collection

  • Software distribution

  • Settings management

  • Password policy management

The Device Management Feature Pack installs components on various SMS server roles including the SMS 2003 Administrator Console, Site Server, and Management Point. The Windows Mobile Device Management Client can be manually installed or automatically deployed and configured using the SMS 2003 desktop client.
