Systems Management Server 2.0 SP2
Updated: August 5, 2003
Preparing for Installation
To get started, choose the language version you want from the download list at right. This will then take you to a page that asks you to specify the platform for which you need the service pack, whether Intel (x86) or DEC Alpha. Save the file to your computer's hard drive.
Next, create a Systems Management Server 2.0 compact disc image and merge the SP2 files with this image. The steps required to merge the files are dependent on your version of the Systems Management Server 2.0 CD as explained below.
If Your SMS 2.0 CD Includes SP1
Insert the Systems Management Server 2.0 SP1 (Version 2.00.1380.1000) compact disc in your computer's compact disc drive and copy the disc image to a location that the network can access.
If you are not certain which CD version you have, see How To Determine Your Version of SMS.
Note: Do not try to run the Web download CD update tool on anything other than a SMS 2.0 SP1 CD. Updating a previously updated image is unsupported.
Make sure that your computer is not performing any other tasks. The success of an updated operation depends on the target machine having enough resources to perform the update.
From your hard drive, run the SP2 Web update you downloaded: sms20sp2i.exe (for Intel) or sms20sp2a.exe (for Alpha). The CD Patch Tool guides you through the necessary steps to update the disc image created in step 1 to Systems Management Server 2.0 SP2.
When you are prompted to enter the destination file location of the Systems Management Server 2.0 compact disc image, enter the drive letter or network location of the Systems Management Server 2.0 SP1 image that you created in step 1.

Installing SP2
Note: Before proceeding, verify that the previous operation worked. If the update operation reports success, check the resulting CD image for the existence of any .tmp files. If any exist, assume the update operation failed. Clean the resulting image off your hard drive, revert to the previous CD image, and then try the update operation again.
Burn a new compact disc with the new Systems Management Server image or copy the new image to a network location.
Run Setup.exe from the new Systems Management Server 2.0 SP2 image from the compact disc you created or from the network location you specified in step 1.

How to Download and Install
Download the language version of SP2 you need to a local computer.
Copy the downloaded SP2 .exe file to a folder on the site server you want to upgrade.
Run the .exe file (a self-extracting WinZip executable file).
Run Autorun.exe from the SP2 image that you extracted.
Because this download is approximately 64.9 MB, an ISDN or faster connection is highly recommended.

Tips on Downloading Large Files
Before downloading, do the following:
Ensure that the application you use to connect to your ISP does not have a short timeout value.
