SMS 2.0 SP4 Requires SP2
If you must upgrade an SMS 2.0 site server that has not already been upgraded to SP2, you must first upgrade to SP2 and then to SP4. For help, see How to Determine Your Version of SMS.
If you are installing SP4 on a new system, Microsoft recommends that you obtain an SP2 full installation CD, which contains SMS 2.0 with integrated SP2 files and allows you to install SP2 directly (without requiring you to first install SMS 2.0). This process allows a short installation path to SP4.
The SP2 upgrade is available from any of the following sources:
The SP2 full installation CD is shipped with all new SMS 2.0 Server Licenses.
The SP2 full installation CD is in the August 2000 issue of Microsoft Select.
- The SP2 full installation CD is in the product box for all Systems Management Server products shipped after July 2000.
The SP2 upgrade image can be downloaded from this site.
The SP2 upgrade CD is in the August 2000 issue of TechNet.
How to Install
To download and install this service pack:
Download the language version of SP4 you need to a local computer.
- Copy the downloaded SP4 .exe file to a folder on the site server you want to upgrade.
Run the .exe file (it is a self-extracting WinZip executable file).
Run Autorun.exe from the SP4 image that you extracted.
Because this download is approximately 200 MB, an ISDN or faster connection is highly recommended. You must have 400 MB of available disk space to expand the download. If you prefer, you can order a compact disc version above.
