Upgrading to SP5: Installation NotesThere are several steps to upgrading Systems Management Server 2.0 with SP5. The steps vary depending on the status of your current installation. Please read these instructions completely before downloading and installing this service pack. Note: You can also order a CD version in the United States and Canada (see the Order CD box to the right). Allow 4-6 weeks for delivery. SMS 2.0 SP5 Setup Scenarios
SMS 2.0 SP5 Setup supports the following:
- A primary site upgrade from an existing SMS 2.0 Service Pack 2 (SP2) or later primary site only.
A new secondary site installation without requiring a previously installed secondary site installation.
A secondary site upgrade from an existing SMS 2.0 SP2 or later secondary site only.
An SMS Administrator console installation only without an existing SMS installation.
- An SMS Administrator console upgrade from an existing SMS 2.0 SP2 or later Administrator console only.
Uninstalling SMS 2.0 SP5 site servers.
The modification or resetting of an SMS 2.0 SP5 site.
The modification of an SMS 2.0 SP5 Administrator console.
SMS 2.0 SP5 Setup does not allow:
A primary site installation without an existing SMS 2.0 SP2 or later primary site.
The addition of optional components to an SMS site or an SMS Administrator console using a version earlier than SMS 2.0 SP5.
SMS 2.0 SP5 Requires SP2 or Later
If you must upgrade an SMS 2.0 site server that has not already been upgraded to SP2, you must first upgrade to SP2 and then to SP5. For help, see How to Determine Your Version of SMS.
Important note for French versions: When upgrading from a previous French version of SMS to SMS 2.0 Service Pack (SP) 5, the localized Help files will be replaced with English Help files. The Help files have not been modified since the SMS 2.0 SP2 release in 2000. Therefore, the content is identical to previous service packs (SP2 through SP4). The localized versions of these files need to be recopied to your computer from the previous service pack CD or by installing the hot fix available in Knowledge Base Article 824149.
How to Install
To download and install this service pack:
Download the language version of SP5 you need to a local computer.
- Copy the downloaded SP5 .exe file to a folder on the site server you want to upgrade.
Run the .exe file (it is a self-extracting WinZip executable file).
Run Autorun.exe from the SP5 image that you extracted.
Note: Because this download is approximately 200 MB, an ISDN or faster connection is highly recommended. You must have 400 MB of available disk space to expand the download. If you prefer, you can order the CD version above.
