SQL Server 2000 Windows® CE Edition (SQL Server CE) users who have applied Service Pack 3 (SP3) or Service Pack 3a (SP3a) to their SQL Server 2000 database and publisher servers should also update the server replication components on servers running Internet Information Services (IIS).

After applying SP3 or SP3a to your SQL Server databases, you will need to install a service update (sqlce20sql2ksp3a.exe for SQL Server CE version 2.0 users or sqlce11sql2ksp3a.exe for SQL Server CE version 1.1 users) on your servers running IIS if:

  • The computer running SQL Server is not the same as the one running IIS.
  • The computer running SQL Server is the same as the one running IIS, but that computer did not have SQL Server CE tools installed on it before you applied SP3 or SP3a.

Note: This download provides a standalone installation of the server component tools; an RTM version of the tools does not need to be on the server first.

Note: You do not need to apply the service update if the computer running SQL Server is the same as the one running IIS and it did have SQL Server CE tools installed on it before you applied SP3 or SP3a, because the service update does not include any updates to the SQL Server CE server agent dynamic-link library (DLL).

You can also use the service update to set up a new server to run IIS. In this case, you do not need to install any other version of the SQL Server CE tools before running the service update.
