TechNet Flash - Volume 10, Issue 9: April 30, 2008

Note from the Editor

Greetings New TechNet Flash Subscriber,

Are you managing large and distributed IT infrastructures and looking to consolidate physical servers onto a virtual infrastructure? Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager provides support for consolidating as well as rapid provisioning and deployment of new virtual machines. And now you can try out the beta version of System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008, which offers multi-vendor virtualization support and Performance and Resource Optimization (PRO) for dynamically managing virtualized IT infrastructure. For more on this comprehensive management solution for the virtualized data center, see:

" What’s new in System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008?

" Top 10 Benefits of System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008

" Introduction to System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008 white paper

Speaking of virtualization, check out the beta of a new Solution Accelerator on Microsoft Connect. The Offline Virtual Machine Servicing Tool combines Windows Workflow with Windows PowerShell to automate the update process of virtual machines (VMs) stored in a Virtual Machine Manager library. VMs that are offline for extended periods need to be kept current with the latest operating system updates to maintain good network security. For more details, see the Offline Virtual Machine Servicing Tool Executive Overview.

And finally, a reminder that the beta of Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V is now available. With this new hypervisor-based server virtualization technology, you can consolidate server roles as separate VMs running on one physical server.
