Microsoft System Center Essentials 2010 is Microsoft’s second release of an IT systems management product specifically designed for the midsized business. Essentials 2010 provides a unified solution with a single console for managing a broad range of tasks across your servers (virtual and physical), clients, hardware, software, and IT services for a unified experience. It also enables you to proactively manage your IT environment, helping keep your system up-to-date with a solution that accelerates problem resolution and enables automation of system updates and data collection. In this Ramp Up course, you will learn how to configure and use Essentials 2010 to perform the most critical systems management tasks in a midsize environment.

Step 1

Essentials 2010 Features and Implementation

In this track you will learn about the features, functionality and architecture of System Center Essentials 2010. You will also understand the prerequisites, hardware and software requirements for Essentials 2010 installation, and discuss Essentials upgrade and installation options, as well as common installation issues.

Step 2

Managing Clients in System Center Essentials 2010

In this section you will learn how to perform common client management tasks such as  monitoring and management for client computers running Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7 operating systems, including patching and installation of new software without carrying DVDs to every workstation.

Virtualization Management

Here you will learn how to use Essentials 2010 to manage both physical and virtual infrastructures. You will also learn how to host Essentials 2010 in your virtual environment.

Extending and Customizing Service Manager

Here you will learn how to customize and extend Service Manager 2010 to meet the unique needs of the business. You will learn how to extend the CMDB model and create custom forms, templates, workflows, and reports, using the authoring console and XML.
