This topic explains how to remove a clustered mailbox server (CMS) from a single copy cluster from the command-line (using Setup.com) or by using Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 (SP1) Setup Wizard to. Removing a CMS is equivalent to uninstalling a standalone Mailbox server.

Before You Begin

All mailboxes must be removed before performing this operation.

In a single copy cluster that contains more than one CMS, there is a specific removal order that must be followed. Specifically, the first CMS installed in the cluster must always be the last CMS that is uninstalled. For detailed steps to determine the first CMS installed in the cluster, see Cómo determinar el primer servidor de buzones de correo en clúster instalado en un clúster de copia única.

Determine what node in the cluster is currently hosting the clustered mailbox server. This can be determined by running the Get-ClusteredMailboxServerStatus cmdlet and passing the name of the clustered mailbox server.

To perform this procedure, you must be logged on to the computer that is currently hosting the clustered mailbox server that you want to delete by using an account that is delegated the following:

  • Exchange Server Administrator role and local Administrators group for the target server

For more information about permissions, delegating roles, and the rights that are required to administer Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, see Consideraciones sobre permisos.

Procedure

To use Setup.com to remove a clustered mailbox server

  1. Open a command prompt on the node that is currently hosting the CMS, and navigate to the bin directory under the Exchange Server program files. The default install location is %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft\Exchange Server\bin.

  2. Run the following command (where <CMSName> is the name of the CMS to be removed):

    Setup.com /removeCMS /CMSName:<CMSName>

  3. Once the CMS is removed, the node transitions from being an active node to being a passive node. It no longer hosts a clustered mailbox server, but it still has the Mailbox role installed, thereby making it a passive node. You can reinstall a new CMS on this node, you can leave it as a passive node, or you can remove Exchange from the node. To remove Exchange from the node, run the following command:

    Setup.com /m:uninstall

After Setup finishes, restart the node.

  4. To complete the removal of Exchange from the node, delete any remaining files and subfolders under the Exchange Server program files folder. The default location of this folder is %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft\Exchange Server.

To use the Exchange Server 2007 SP1 Setup Wizard to remove a clustered mailbox server

  1. Open the Control Panel on the node that is currently hosting the CMS and launch the appropriate programs applet:

    • Launch Add or Remove Programs in Windows Server 2003
    • Launch Programs and Features in Windows Server 2008
  2. Select Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, and click either Remove (on Windows Server 2003) or Uninstall (on Windows Server 2008) to start the Exchange Server 2007 SP1 Setup Wizard in Exchange Maintenance Mode.

  3. After the Wizard appears, click Next to begin the removal process.

  4. On the Server Role Selection page,
