Maintenance of Disk Space and Database Growth

Applies To: Windows 7, Windows Vista

This section provides guidance on managing the small amount of ongoing maintenance required while using the Update Compatibility Evaluator (UCE) in your organization.

File Share Disk Space Growth

After processing your log files, the ACT Log Processing Service moves the uncompressed XML files to the Processed folder. If you are faced with low disk space, you can delete older log files to create more room on your log file share.

ACT Database Growth

The ACT database continues to grow as you deploy and redeploy your compatibility evaluators. This can lead to performance problems and difficulties managing the database size. If you find your database has become unmanageable, the recommended solution is to archive your existing database and create a new one since it is not possible to prune database information.

To create a new database

  1. Start the Application Compatibility Manager.

  2. On the Tools menu, click Settings.

    The Settings dialog box appears.

  3. Type the name of your new database into the Database Name box, and then click Create.
