View a List of Virtual Directories in a Web Application (IIS 7)

IIS Manager provides a list of all virtual directories in a site or an application. From this list, you can view important information, such as the path of the virtual directory content. As a server administrator, you can also select a virtual directory from the list and edit its properties.

To view a list of virtual directories in a site or an application
You can perform this procedure by using the user interface (UI), by running Appcmd.exe commands in a command-line window, by editing configuration files directly, or by writing WMI scripts.
User Interface
To use the UI
Open IIS Manager and navigate to the level you want to manage. For information about opening IIS Manager, see Open IIS Manager (IIS 7). For information about navigating to locations in the UI, see Navigation in IIS Manager (IIS 7).
In Features View, in the Actions pane on the site or applicationHome page, click View Virtual Directories.
Command Line
To view a list of virtual directories in a site, use the following syntax:
appcmd list vdir /app.name:string/
The variable app.namestring is the site name and the / following the name specifies that the list should include all virtual directories under the root application of the site.
For example, to return a list of virtual directories in a site named contoso, type the following at the command prompt, and then press ENTER:
appcmd list vdir /app.name:contoso/
To view a list of virtual directories in an application other than a site's root application, use the following syntax:
**appcmd list vdir /app.name:**string
The variable app.namestring is the virtual path of the application for which you want to view a list of virtual directories.
For example, to return a list of virtual directories in an application named marketing under a site named contoso, type the following at the command prompt, and then press ENTER:
appcmd list vdir /app.name:contoso/marketing
