Scalability is the capability of a piece of hardware or software to easily expand to meet future computing needs. Each version of IIS is designed for better performance and scalability than the previous version. However, scalability can be impaired by hardware configurations and bottlenecks in poorly designed or poorly tested Web applications. Administrators can dramatically improve the scalability of their IIS server environment with careful planning and assessment of their infrastructure, which includes hardware, distributed applications, and custom components.
