The Data Protection Manager 2010 Diagnostics Tool runs a series of tests and alerts you to potential or existing problems in your setup. The tests available depend on whether you are running the tool on the DPM server or a protected computer.
Tape Library Tests
The following is a list of test cases that the DPM Diagnostics Tool runs on your computer.

This test will scan all tape changer devices and check if the driver is configured. This test will not check for any specific driver or version. |

This test will scan all tape drives and check if the driver is configured. This test will not check for any specific driver or version. |

MTA folder Accessibility Test |
This test will check if MTATempStore$ is accessible. The diagnostics agent will create a temporary file in MTATempStore$ and try to read it. |

Tape Hardware Alert Test |
This test will check for pending hardware alerts using SCSI pass through commands. |

Drive Mapping Test |
This test will check if the drive mapping is correct. |

Mount Dismount Test |
This test will verify if mount functionality is working by mounting media from the first full slot to the first drive and dismounting it back to the source location. |

Export Import Test |
This test will verify if tape export-import through I/E port is working by moving a tape from the first full slot to the first I/E port and moving it back to the source location. This test will be skipped if the library does not have an I/E port. |

Drive Cleaning Test |
This test will verify if drive cleaning is working. This test will be skipped if the library does not support barcode or if no CLN barcode tape is present in the library. |

Serial Number Test |
This test will verify whether all tape drives and changer devices have serial numbers. |

Tape Read Write Test |
This test will verify if read/write functionality is working. This test will mount a given media in the first drive and check if the drive supports a 64K block size. It will then rewind and write a given amount of data to the tape. The test will then rewind the tape, read and verify the data content and length, and then dismount the media back to its original slot. This test will be skipped for stand-alone drives. |

This test will get the DNS suffix of the local computer and check if it ends with a period. The tool uses the GetComputerNameEx Windows API to do this. |

This test will get the host SPN of the local computer. The tool uses the DsRoleGetPrimaryDomainInformation Windows API internally to construct the SPN. |
