This topic provides information about how to troubleshoot problems that you may have with messaging records management (MRM) in Microsoft Exchange Server 2007.

Note

Before you troubleshoot, it is highly recommended that you run the Microsoft Exchange Server Best Practices Analyzer Tool in your environment.

MRM Is Set Up in a Series of Steps

Messaging records management is set up in a series of steps. The most common causes of confusion and rework when setting up MRM are:

  • Trying to get an aspect of MRM to work before earlier steps in the setup process have been completed.

  • Not completing the MRM setup process. For example, the most common MRM setup error is not completing the last step in the setup process: scheduling the managed folder assistant to run.
