Lync Online Service Description

Office 365

Applies to: Office 365

Topic Last Modified: 2014-10-15

Microsoft Lync Online is a hosted communications service that connects people anytime and from virtually anywhere by delivering the collaboration capabilities of Lync Server 2013 as a cloud-based service. It gives users access to presence, instant messaging, audio and video calling, rich online meetings, and extensive web conferencing capabilities.

Organizations that subscribe to Lync Online retain control over the collaboration services they offer to users, but they do not have the operational burden of on-premises server software. With the Lync Online multi-tenant hosted plans described in this document, Lync is hosted on multi-tenant servers that support multiple customers simultaneously. These servers are housed in Microsoft data centers and are accessible to users on a wide range of devices from inside a corporate network or over the Internet.

To compare features across plans, see Office 365 service comparison.

To buy an Office 365 plan or chat with an online representative, see Compare all Office 365 for business plans.

TipTip:
You can export, save, and print pages in the Office 365 Service Descriptions. Learn how to export multiple pages.

For information about new features in Lync Online, see What's New in Lync Online.

Office 365 is available in a variety of plans in order to best meet the needs of your organization. For information about different plans, including standalone plan options and information on moving from one plan to another, see Office 365 Plan Options.

NoteNote:
Lync Online is not available in Office 365 Enterprise K1 or Office 365 Government K1.

For information about the operating systems, web browsers, and Office clients that are designed to work with Office 365, see Office 365 System Requirements.

The following table lists Lync Online feature availability across Office 365 options.

NoteNote:
These tables indicate client and service availability across Office 365 options. If you want to compare individual features among the various Lync desktop clients, web clients, and mobile clients, see Lync Online client comparison tables and Mobile Client Comparison Tables.
