Use this dialog box to configure the identity of your Web site. The Web site identity consists of an IP address, TCP port, and an optional host header name. For an IP address to appear in the list box, you first must associate the address with your computer. Host header names must be registered with the Domain Name System (DNS). A DNS server maps your registered host header name (domain name) to the IP address of your computer. The mapping of the host header name to the IP address of your computer enables requests that are addressed to your host header name to be routed to your computer.

IP Address

Select an IP address from the list box that you want to associate with this Web site. Only IP addresses that have been defined on this computer, using Control Panel, appear in the IP Address list box. If you do not assign a specific IP address, this Web site responds to all IP addresses assigned to this computer that are not assigned to other Web sites.

TCP port

This setting determines the TCP port on which the World Wide Web Publishing Service (WWW service) is running. The default port is 80. You can change the port to any unique TCP port number. However, to connect to your server, clients must know in advance to request that port number.

Host Header value

You can assign multiple host names, also referred to as domain names, to one computer using a single IP address. If the Web site requested in the host header is stopped, the client receives the default Web site. Therefore, Internet service providers (ISPs) should set the default Web site as the ISP home page, rather than a customer site.
