Netdiag.exe: Network Connectivity Tester

This command-line diagnostic tool helps to isolate networking and connectivity problems by performing a series of tests to determine the state of your network client. These tests and the key network status information they expose give network administrators and support personnel a more direct means of identifying and isolating network problems. Moreover, because this tool does not require parameters or switches to be specified, support personnel and network administrators can focus on analyzing the output rather than on training users how to use the tool.

Notes

  • You must run NetDiag from the command window.

  • TCP/IP must be bound to one or more adapters before using this tool. In most cases, this binding already exists.

Corresponding UI

There is no corresponding user interface for this tool.

Concepts

The TCP/IP protocol stack is the primary communications protocol used in networks today. To access the Internet, you need to be using TCP/IP.

This tool provides diagnostic features that are useful for troubleshooting Windows Server 2003 operating system configurations. However, because this tool has been designed primarily for system administrators and support personnel, its output may be difficult to analyze. In this case, you should review the appropriate troubleshooting sections in the Windows Deployment and Resource Kits. For more information, search for network connectivity in the Windows Deployment and Resource Kits.
