A UAC Notification Message Appears When You Remove or Repair a Program in Windows 7

Symptom

When you update, remove, or repair a program in Windows Vista or Windows 7, you may receive the following User Account Control (UAC) notification message: "An unidentified program wants to access your computer."

Cause

This may occur if the following conditions are true:

  • The program installation used a Windows Installer package.

  • The update used a Windows Installer update.

  • The package or update was digitally signed.

In this scenario, the User Account Control dialog box may not display the correct certificate or package source information.

Resolution

To resolve this issue:

  • In Windows Vista, click Allow in the User Account Control dialog box to let the update, repair, or remove operation continue.

  • In Windows 7, click Yes in the User Account Control dialog box to let the update, repair, or remove operation continue.
