Manage computer backups

Applies To: Windows Home Server 2011

Backups are automatically scheduled daily for each computer when you install the Windows® Home Server 2011 Connector software. So, over time, you will have multiple backups for each computer. You can manage each backup for a computer.

To manage computer backups

  1. Open the Dashboard.

  2. Click the Computers and Backup tab.

  3. Click the computer for which you want to manage backups, and then click View the computer properties in the Tasks pane.

  4. In the Properties dialog box, click the Backup tab.

  5. Click a backup in the list, and then click View details.

  6. On the Backup Details dialog box, in the Edit backup properties section, you can choose:

    • Manage backup automatically

      Select this setting if you want Windows Home Server 2011 to configure the backup retention policy. Configure the retention policy on the Computer Backup page on Windows Home Server 2011 Settings. For more information, see Change the computer backup retention policy.

    • Keep this backup

      Select this setting if you want to keep the backup when Backup Cleanup runs. If you select this option, this backup is never deleted as part of cleanup operation.

    • Delete this backup when Cleanup runs

      Select this setting if you want to delete the backup at the next Backup Cleanup.

  7. Click OK to apply the changes and close the dialog box, and then click OK to close the Edit backup properties dialog box.
