Event ID 12303 — FSRM Notification Service Configuration

Applies To: Windows Server 2008

The File Server Resource Manager (FSRM) service (SrmSvc) uses a Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) server to send notifications and storage reports over e-mail. In order for the File Service Resource Manager notification service to be able to send these e-mail notifications and reports, an SMTP server must be defined in the File Server Resource Manager configuration options.

Resolve

Specify an SMTP server to use when sending e-mail notifications

A Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) server must be specified as part of the initial File Server Resource Manager (FSRM) configuration so that quota or file screening e-mail notifications can be sent.

To perform this procedure, you must have membership in Administrators, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority.

To specify the SMTP server to use when sending e-mail notifications:

  1. Open File Server Resource Manager. Click Start, point to All Programs, click Administrative Tools, and then click File Server Resource Manager.
  2. In the console tree, right-click File Server Resource Manager, and then click Configure Options.
  3. On the E-mail Notifications tab, type the computer name or the IP address of the SMTP server that will forward e-mail notifications.
  4. If you have not already specified an e-mail account to which the e-mail notifications will be sent, type that e-mail address under Default administrator recipients. If needed, you can specify more than one e-mail address. Use a semicolon to separate multiple addresses.
  5. Click OK to save the new e-mail notification settings.

Verify

To verify that the File Server Resource Manager (FSRM) service is properly configured to send e-mail notifications, send a test e-mail using File Server Resource Manager.

To perform this procedure, you must have membership in Administrators, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority.

To send a test e-mail:

  1. Open File Server Resource Manager. Click Start, point to All Programs, click Administrative Tools, and then click File Server Resource Manager.
  2. In the console tree, right-click File Server Resource Manager, and then click Configure Options.
  3. On the E-mail Notifications tab, ensure that the address for an e-mail account that you have access to is listed as one of the default administrator recipients.
  4. To send the test e-mail, click Send Test E-mail. The File Server Resource Manager service is properly configured if you receive the test e-mail.
