Event ID 1005 — Microsoft Antimalware Engine Scan

Applies To: Windows Server 2008

A scan is used to invoke the scanning engine and look for spyware and other potentially unwanted software on your computer. Windows Defender can run a quick scan, a full system scan, or a customized scan on a computer:

  • Quick scan - checks only the places on your computer's hard disk that spyware or other potentially unwanted software are most likely to infect.
  • Full scan - checks all of the files on your hard disk and all currently running programs.
  • Customized scan - checks only the drives, files, and folders that you specify.

Verify

A full scan in Windows Defender uses the scanning engine to check all of the files on your hard disk and all currently running programs. If the scanning engine is not working correctly, the full scan will fail.

To perform this procedure, you must be a member of the Users group, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority.

To verify that the scanning engine is working correctly:

  1. Click Start, point to All Programs, and then click Windows Defender.
  2. Click the down arrow next to Scan, and then click Full Scan.
  3. If the full scan completes successfully, the scanning engine is working correctly.
