Remote Desktop Connection Client 7.0 does not support accessing Windows 2000 servers

The Remote Desktop Connection client 7.0 introduced in Windows® 7 and Windows Server® 2008 R2 does not support connecting to Windows®°2000 Server Terminal Servers.

Additional information

Windows®°2000 Server extended support ends on July 13, 2010. No additional Remote Desktop Connection 7.0 compatibility hotfixes will be created for Windows®°2000 Server as it is outside of the support lifecycle. Known issues that may occur when trying to connect RDC 7.0 to a Windows®°2000 Server Terminal Server include the following:

  • Virtual Channels will not work.

  • Remote clipboard redirection will not work.

  • Remote printer redirection will not work.
