Microsoft® MapPoint® is the technology behind Microsoft's mapping and location services platforms and applications.

If you are working in a connected environment (example: Web applications), see the MapPoint Web Service section. The MapPoint Web Service is a hosted programmable Web service used by enterprises and developers to build location-based applications.

If you are working in a disconnected/offline (example: a Windows application using Maps and demographic data) check the MapPoint section. The MapPoint ActiveX® Control provides offline access to many of the same features as the MapPoint Web Service.

If you are interested in integrating location-based services into applications that target mobile devices such as Pocket PCs and Smartphones, see the MapPoint Location Server section. MapPoint Location Server works in conjunction with MapPoint Web Service technology and connects wireless mobile devices, location service providers, and MapPoint Web Service to provide powerful location-based services to end users.
