What’s changing in the next major release

Use this information to prepare for the upgrade to the next major release of Microsoft Dynamics CRM. This topic describes some significant changes in the next major release of Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online and Microsoft Dynamics CRM (on-premises). Notice that the information provided here may change by the time of release.

No longer supported in the next major release of Microsoft Dynamics CRM

In support of the latest technologies and in compliance with the Microsoft Support Lifecycle, obsolete platform products and technologies will no longer be supported in the next major release of Microsoft Dynamics CRM.

Changes to supported products and technologies that affect both online and on-premises versions

The following products and technologies are no longer supported in the next major release of Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online and Microsoft Dynamics CRM (on-premises).

  • Windows XP to run either Microsoft Dynamics CRM for Outlook or the web application.*

  • Microsoft Office 2003.*

  • No longer supported with the next major version of the E-mail Router.

    • Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 for email routing and tracking.

    • Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 WebDAV protocol for email routing and tracking. (Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Exchange Web Services (EWS) will still be supported.)

*Includes Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 for Outlook running in compatibility mode after an on-premises deployment of Microsoft Dynamics CRM Server 2011 is upgraded to the next major release.

Changes to supported products and technologies that affect on-premises versions

The following products and technologies are no longer supported in the next major release of Microsoft Dynamics CRM (on-premises).

  • Internet Explorer 7.* Notice that this version of Internet Explorer was no longer supported with Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online in the Microsoft Dynamics CRM December 2012 Service Update.

  • Windows Server 2003 Terminal Services to run Microsoft Dynamics CRM for Outlook.*

  • Windows 2000 Server Active Directory forest and domain levels.

*Includes Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 for Outlook running in compatibility mode after an on-premises deployment of Microsoft Dynamics CRM Server 2011 is upgraded to the next major release.

Programmability changes that affect both online and on-premises versions

Including the 2007 endpoint described here, there are several Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 features that will be removed or will no longer be supported in the next major release. For more information for developers, including information about a legacy feature check reporting tool, see What’s Changing in the next Release in the Microsoft Dynamics CRM SDK.

Extensions that use the 2007 endpoint will not be supported and will not work in the next major release of Microsoft Dynamics CRM. Note the following:

  • Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online customers that use the Microsoft account identity provider can continue to use extensions that require the 2007 endpoint after upgrade. However, prior to the transition of your organization from the Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online platform to the Microsoft online services environment (Microsoft Office 365), you will need to upgrade or remove those extensions that require the 2007 endpoint.

  • Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online customers using the Microsoft online services (MOS) identity provider will see no change in service. The 2007 endpoint has not been supported in organizations using the MOS identity provider.

  • For Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 on-premises, when you try to upgrade an organization to the next major release of Microsoft Dynamics CRM, the organization upgrade process will detect extensions that are using the 2007 endpoint or Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 features. You will not be able to continue the upgrade until those extensions are removed or upgraded to use the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 endpoint.
