Update the static site table on namespace servers running Windows 2000 Server

Applies To: Windows Server 2003 R2

If you want referrals from namespace servers and domain controllers running Microsoft Windows 2000 Server operating systems to be ordered according to site information, you can use the /UpdateWin2kStaticSiteTable parameter in Dfsutil.exe to update the static site information for all root targets and folder targets in the namespace object in Active Directory.

To update the static site table

  1. Install Dfsutil.exe, which is part of the Windows Support Tools. You can install the Windows Support Tools by running Suptools.msi in the \Support\Tools folder on your Windows Server 2003 R2 operating system CD.

  2. At the command prompt, type the following command:

    Dfsutil /root:<Namespacepath> /UpdateWin2kStaticSiteTable

For example, to update the namespace \\Contoso\Public, type:

    Dfsutil /root:\\Contoso\Public /UpdateWin2kStaticSiteTable

Notes

  • This procedure applies only to domain-based namespaces.

  • Using this parameter increases the size of the namespace object in Active Directory, possibly making it exceed the recommended 5-MB size limit.

  • This command must be run each time a target server’s site information is changed, such as after the target is moved to another site or after the target’s site name changes.
