Windows Performance Counters

Microsoft Windows Server 2008 includes operating system performance counters that are installed and enabled by default. These performance counters are collected and used by Windows Reliability and Performance Monitor, as well as by non-Microsoft applications.

Name Description

Disk Performance Counter Availability

Disk Performance Counters are collected and used by services and applications. If they are installed incorrectly or with improper permissions, those services or applications cannot collect or interpret the data.

Network Performance Counter Availability

Network Performance Counters are collected and used by services and applications. If they are installed incorrectly or with improper permissions, those services or applications cannot collect or interpret the data.

Performance Counter Status

Performance Counters are collected and used by services and applications. If they are installed incorrectly or with improper permissions, or if required files are not enabled on the system, those services or applications cannot collect or interpret the data.

Process Performance Counter Availability

Process Performance Counters are collected and used by services and applications. If they are installed incorrectly or with improper permissions, those services or applications cannot collect or interpret the data.

Process performance counters contain performance information about individual processes and their use of system resources.

System Performance Counters Availability

System Performance Counters are collected and used by services and applications. If they are installed incorrectly or with improper permissions, those services or applications cannot collect or interpret the data.

System performance counters are supported by PerfOS.DLL and include performance counters in the following groups:

  • Cache
  • Memory
  • Objects
  • Paging File
  • Processor
  • System
