Sales tax overrides (form)

Click Retail > Setup > Sales taxes > Sales tax overrides.

Use this form to set up overrides for sales tax. Cashiers can use overrides to modify the amount of tax on a sales transaction.

Set up sales tax overrides

Example

The sales tax group for a product includes a sales tax code that is named Food, but the customer is exempt from tax on food items. Therefore, the cashier overrides the default sales tax group by using a sales tax group that does not include the Food sales tax code.

Enter or view specific settings for the sales tax override.

Sales tax override

The unique identifier of the code for overriding sales tax.

Description

The name of the code for overriding sales tax.

Status

Select the status of the override code, either Enable or Disable.

Warning

If you select Disable, the override has no effect when an override group that includes the override code is applied to a transaction.

Additional description

More information about the override code. This information is displayed to cashiers.

Type

Select the type of sales tax group, either Item sales tax group or Sales tax group.

From

Select the tax group methods that can be overridden by another tax group method. For example, to allow the tax group to be changed from No tax group to Any tax group or Specified tax group, select No tax group in the From field. Options for this field are:

  • No tax group – The default tax group is overridden by no tax group. In other words, no taxes are applied.

  • Any tax group – The override is available, regardless of the tax groups in the transaction.

  • Specified tax group – The override is available for the tax group that you select in the From tax group field.

To

Select the tax group methods that can be used instead of the default tax group. For example, to allow the tax group to be changed from No tax group or Any tax group to Specified tax group, select Specified tax group in the To field. Options for this field are:

  • No tax group – The default tax group is overridden by no tax group. In other words, no taxes are applied.

  • Specified tax group – The default tax group is overridden by the tax group that you select in the To tax group field.

From tax group

Select the tax group that is overridden. This field is available only if you selected Specified tax group in the From field.

To tax group

Select the tax group that is used instead of the default tax group. This field is available only if you selected Specified tax group in the To field.

Override by

Select Line product to override tax for specific products, or select Transaction to override tax for the whole transaction.

Select the tax group that is overridden. This field is available only if you selected Specified tax group in the From field.

To tax group

Select the tax group that is used instead of the default tax group. This field is available only if you selected Specified tax group in the To field.
