Kanban board for transfer jobs (form)

This topic includes information about features that were added or changed for cumulative update 7 or later for Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2. This information also applies to AX 2012 R3. For more information, see the section later in this topic.

Click Production control > Common > Lean manufacturing > Kanban board for transfer jobs.

Use this form to view an overview of, and register feedback for, the transfer jobs that are active. When you open the form for the first time, you must select criteria to filter the jobs that are displayed. You can filter active transfer jobs based on the following criteria:

  • A specific production flow. You can also filter by a specific activity in the production flow.

  • A specific activity.

  • A location that products are transferred from. You can filter by a specific site, warehouse, and location in the warehouse.

  • A location that products are transferred to. You can filter by a specific site, warehouse, and location in the warehouse.

To change the filter criteria, click Change filtering options, which is located under the Action Pane in the upper-right corner of the form.

The Kanban board for transfer jobs form is interactive and is customized for personnel who are responsible for managing the flow of material for kanbans. You can use the form to register feedback when you complete the following tasks:

  • Replenish supermarkets.

  • Pick material for transfer jobs.

  • Receive material for transfer jobs.

  • Move kanbans to other sites or subcontractors.

The Kanban transfer board form has the following sections:

  • The Action Pane

    • Complete tasks by using a mouse or a keyboard.

    • On the Transfer tab, in the Set registration mode group, configure the Kanban board for transfer jobs form so that a bar code reader can be used to register information for the selected jobs.

  • The Kanban board for transfer jobs section

    • The list of transfer jobs

    • The job details

    • FastTabs

    Each transfer job is represented in the form by the symbol of a kanban. The symbol displays the color that is configured for the lean schedule group. For more information, see Lean schedule groups (form).

    Many of the fields in the form provide links. Click a link to open a form that displays specific information for the selected object in Microsoft Dynamics AX.

The following tables provide descriptions for the controls in this form.

Transfer actions

Use the following actions to manage the flow of material for the selected jobs.

Action button

Description

Update picking list

Open the Pick form, where you can register the actual picking quantities, and the storage dimensions and tracking dimensions, that are used for one or multiple picking lines.

Start

Change the status that is registered for the selected jobs from Not planned to In progress.

Note

In Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012, the inventory transactions that are linked to a kanban transfer job, or the issues and receipts, are posted only when the job is completed. The start of a kanban job does not affect the issue transaction, and therefore does not update inventory.

In cumulative update 7 for Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2, inventory is reserved when the transfer job is started or completed. If you use the Start function, and inventory is not available, the transfer job is not started.

Update registration

Open the Registration form, where you can register detailed inventory receipts to adjust the storage dimensions and tracking dimensions.

Complete

Change the status that is registered for the selected jobs from Not planned or In progress to Completed. When a job is completed, it no longer is displayed in the job list.

Set registration mode group

Select the scan mode to use for a bar code reader. You can register the following changes in status by scanning a kanban card ID:

  • Start – Change the status that is registered for the selected jobs from Not planned to In progress.

  • Complete – Change the status that is registered for the selected jobs from In progress to Completed. When a job is completed, it is no longer displayed in the job list.

  • Empty – Register the handling unit that is assigned to the job as empty.

    • The output from the job is consumed for locations that have the Kanban supermarket type.

    • Circulating cards are unassigned.

  • Select – Select a kanban in the job list.

Revert status

Open the Revert kanban job status form, where you can change the status that is registered for one or more jobs. For more information, see Revert kanban job status (form).

Note

In Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012, the status of transfer jobs that are completed cannot be reverted.

In cumulative update 7 for Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2, reservations are not canceled when you revert the status of a transfer job. You can manage reservations on the Picking list tab by clicking Inventory > Reservation.

Cancel

Change the status of the selected job to Not planned.

Note

In Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012, transfer jobs that are completed cannot be canceled.

In cumulative update 7 for Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2, reservations are not automatically canceled. For more information, see the description of the Revert status field.

Prioritize

Prioritize the selected job. A Priority icon indicates that the job has priority over other jobs.

Create event kanbans

Process pegging events for the selected jobs. If kanban rules are configured for kanban line events to supply material that is required for the selected jobs, additional event kanbans are created.

Pegging tree supply status

For kanban jobs that have pegged event kanbans, verify the projected availability for the pegged kanbans.

  • The due date for pegged kanban jobs that have a status of Planned must be equal to or later than the end date of the planned period.

  • The due date for pegged kanban jobs that have any status other than Planned must be equal to or later than the current date.

If this verification fails, a warning icon is displayed for the job.

Pegging tree overview

For kanban jobs that have pegged event kanbans, open the Pegging tree overview form, where you can view a pegging tree for the source requirement. For more information, see Pegging tree overview (form).

Send

When a shipment has been created for the job, send the shipment.

New

Open the Create shipment wizard, where you can create a shipment for the job.

Details

If the selected transfer job is assigned to a shipment, open the Shipments form.

Lines

If the selected transfer job is assigned to a shipment, open the Shipment lines form, where you can maintain the details of the shipment lines.

Print

Print a copy of the picking list and the kanban card. If the job is assigned to a shipment, you can print a copy of the shipment list and the bill of lading.

View actions

Use the following actions to update or modify the information that is displayed in the form.

Refresh (F5)

Update the information that is displayed in the form.

Refresh cycle

Open the Refresh cycle form, where you can configure the kanban board to periodically update the information that is displayed. For more information, see Refresh cycle (form).

Job list parameters

Open the Job list - limit display form, where you can you can modify the constraints on job statuses that are used to filter the list of transfer jobs. For more information, see Job list - limit display (form).

Transfer job list

Open the Dimensions display form, where you can select the product dimensions and storage dimensions that are displayed for the list of transfer jobs.

Picking and event kanban list

Open the Dimensions display form, where you can select the product dimensions and storage dimensions that are displayed on the Picking list tab and the Pegging tab.

The list of transfer jobs

The job list displays the transfer jobs that match the filter criteria. The jobs are listed in the order in which they appear in the current schedule. When you select a job in the job list, the information that is displayed on the FastTabs is updated for that job.

You can display additional fields for product dimensions and storage dimensions in the list of transfer jobs. On the Action Pane, on the View tab, in the Dimensions display group, click Transfer job list.

Field

Description

Card number

The kanban card that is assigned to the job.

Item number

The item that is transferred by the job. The item may have product dimensions.

Job quantity

The quantity of product that is transferred by the job.

If the kanban rule is configured to allow deviating quantities, you can modify the quantity that is transferred before you start the job.

Unit

The unit of measure that is used for the job quantity.

Production flow

The production flow that the job references.

Activity name

The name of the activity that the job references.

Job status

The current status of the job.

From warehouse

The warehouse that the products are shipped from.

From location

The location in the warehouse that the products are transferred from or picked from.

To warehouse

The warehouse that the products are shipped to.

To location

The location in the warehouse that the products are transferred to.

Dispatch date

When a shipment is created for the job, the date and time when the shipment is dispatched.

Carrier ID

If the job is subcontracted to a third party, the name of the carrier who handles the delivery service.

Shipment

The shipment that the job references.

The job details

This section of the form displays detailed information about the job that is selected in the job list.

Tab

Description

Details

View the reference information for the job.

Picking list

View the material that is required for the selected jobs. The current availability of the material is also indicated. You can also manage reservations for the transfer job.

Pegging

View the event kanbans that are pegged to the selected jobs.

Field

Description

Freighted by

If the job is subcontracted, the party that is responsible for the transfer and the referenced shipment.

  • Shipper – The shipping party is responsible for the transfer.

  • Recipient – The receiving party is responsible for the transfer.

  • Carrier – A third-party carrier is responsible for the transfer.

Vendor account

If the job is subcontracted, the account number of the vendor.

  • If the value in the Freighted by field is Shipper, and the From warehouse is managed by a vendor, the account number of the vendor is displayed.

  • If the value in the Freighted by field is Recipient, and the To warehouse is managed by a vendor, the account number of the vendor is displayed.

  • If the value in the Freighted by field is Carrier, you can select one of the carriers that are set up in the subcontracting terms for the activity. You can select a carrier before you start the transfer job.

Quantity

The quantity of items to pick.

Unit

The unit of measure that is used for the picked quantity.

Supply status

The availability of material for the picking line. The availability is based on the item pegging. For items that have partial availability, two picking lines are displayed. One line displays the quantity that is available, and one line displays the quantity that is not available.

Item pegging

The source of supply that is pegged to the picking line.

  • Inventory – The items are supplied from inventory.

  • Kanban – The items are supplied from a work cell, warehouse, or supermarket by using a Kanban line event kanban.

  • Output order – The items are supplied from inventory by using an output order.

Kanban icon

The symbol of the kanban job for the pegged job. The symbol represents the status of the referenced job.

Kanban

The identifier of the kanban that the pegged job belongs to.

Pegged jobs can originate either from event kanbans or from upstream jobs for kanbans that have multiple activities.

Pegged quantity

The item quantity that is pegged to the selected kanban job.

Good quantity

The quantity of product that complies with quality standards, and that has been registered for the pegged kanban job.

Activity

The name of the activity that the pegged kanban job refers to.

Handling unit status

The status of the handling unit for the pegged kanban.

Registration

Use this FastTab when you use a bar code reader to register the status of a job.

Field

Description

Kanban card number

The kanban card that you register the job status for.

Messages

You can view messages that Microsoft Dynamics AX generates when you use the Kanban transfer board form. The messages may include information or warnings, or they may indicate errors. The messages are deleted when you close the form.

Overview of kanban quantities

You can view an overview of all the active kanbans and the corresponding jobs that match the filter criteria that are defined for the Kanban transfer board form. The overview indicates the current on-hand inventory in supermarkets, the work that is in progress, and the jobs that are planned and not planned. The information in the overview is organized and displayed as follows:

  • The jobs are displayed in order of descending status. Jobs that have a status of Completed are displayed first. An alert symbol is displayed for jobs that are overdue.

  • Right-click a job to display additional reference information for the job.

  • Background colors are used to indicate the following conditions:

    • Green – The kanban quantity meets the level that is defined by the minimum alert quantity and the maximum alert quantity of the kanban rule.

    • Red – The kanban quantity is less than the minimum alert quantity of the kanban rule or more than the maximum alert quantity.

Button

Description

Revert status

Open the Revert kanban job status form, where you can change the status of one or more jobs. For more information, see Revert kanban job status (form).

Cancel

Change the status that is registered for the selected job to Not planned.

Prioritize

Prioritize the selected job. A Priority icon indicates that the job has priority over other jobs.

Print

Print a copy of the kanban card.

Empty

Register the handling unit that is assigned to the job as empty.

  • The output from the job is consumed for locations that have the Kanban supermarket type.

  • Circulating cards are unassigned.

Use alternative kanban rule

For event kanbans or scheduled kanbans, open the Use alternative kanban rule wizard, where you can assign a different kanban rule to the kanban for the selected jobs. You can use this wizard to reschedule the jobs of a kanban so that they are completed by a different work cell or by a subcontractor. For more information, see Use alternative kanban rule (form).

Product

The product selection that can be supplied by the kanban rule.

Jobs

The jobs that are active for the referenced kanban rule.

Job icon legend

You can view the various icons that are used on the kanban board. The icons improve the usability of the kanban board by indicating the current status of a specific job or the status of the handling unit that is referenced by a job.
