Use this form to create a new released product.

NoteNote

Some of the information that you specify in this form is specific to the company. You specify this information in the Company-specific identification group, and in the fields that are available when you click Show more fields. Additionally, a shared instance of the product that you create is available on the All products and product masters, Products, and Product masters list pages. The shared instance of the product does not have any of the company-specific information.

The following table provides descriptions for the controls in this form.

Field

Description

Product type

Select the type of released product that you are creating, either Item or Service.

Product subtype

Select the subtype of the released product that you are creating:

  • Product – A fixed product definition that does not have any variants.

  • Product master – A product definition that is used as the basis for product variants.

Product number

The identifier of the product. The product number can be derived from a number sequence, or it can be entered manually, depending on the setup in the Number sequences form.

  • If the product number sequence that is set up for products is set to Manual, you must enter a product number when you create a new product.

  • If the product number sequence that is set up for products is set to Continuous, a continuous product number is entered automatically when you create a new product. For more information about continuous number sequences, see the section about continuous and noncontiguous number sequences in Number sequence overview.

NoteNote

The product number cannot be changed when the product is created.

Product name

The product name, which is copied from the product number. If you want the product name to differ from the product number, you can change the name.

TipTip

The product name cannot be changed when a released product is created.

Search name

TipTip

You can define two search names for a released product:

  • Search name in the Identification group – The name that is used for product searches in forms that list the shared product definition. The definition of the shared product is a shared representation of the product that is available on the All products and product masters, Products, and Product masters list pages.

  • Search name in the Company-specific identification group – The name that is used for searches in the company where the released product is created. The company-specific search name is available if you search for the released product from the Released products list page.

Item number

The identifier of the item. The item number is copied from the product number. If you want the item number to differ from the product number, you can change the item number.
