Create products by using a template

You can use a template to create a series of similar released products.

Create templates

You create a template by specifying an existing released product as a template. A template can be created as a personal template that is only available to you or as a shared template that is available to all users.

Create a personal or a shared template

  1. Click Product information management > Common > Released products.

  2. Select the product to use as a template, and then, on the Action Pane, in the Maintain group, click Edit.

  3. On the Action Pane, in the New group, click Template, and then select Create personal template or Create shared template.

  4. In the Name field, enter a name for the template, and optionally provide a description in the Description field.

Apply templates to products

You can apply a template to an existing released product, or you can apply a template when you create a new released product.

Note

If you apply a template to an existing released product, the following parameters must be identical for the template and for the product where the template is applied:

  • Product type

  • Product subtype

  • Configuration technology

Apply a template to an existing product

  1. Click Product information management > Common > Released products.

  2. Select the product where you want to apply a template, and then, on the Action Pane, click Edit.

  3. On the Action Pane, in the Maintain group, click Apply template.

  4. Select the template to use, and then click OK.

Apply a template to a new product

  1. Click Product information management > Common > Released products.

  2. On the Action Pane, in the New group, click Product.

  3. Click Show more fields to expand the dialog box.

  4. In the Apply template field, select a template.

Delete a shared template

  1. Click Home > Setup > Record templates.

  2. Click the Templates tab.

  3. Select the Default template check box for the template that you want to delete and then press ALT+F9.
