Uninstalling Virtual Machine Manager

You can uninstall System Center Virtual Machine Manager (VMM) completely, including the VMM database, which contains all associated configuration and status information. Or, if you plan to reinstall VMM server and resume managing hosts in the same host environment, you can uninstall the product but retain the VMM database.

Note

If you are using a remote instance of SQL Server for the VMM database, you must enter credentials for a user account that is a member of the sysadmin server role on the SQL Server, whether you retain or remove the database. If the SQL Server is behind a firewall, you must ensure that the necessary ports are open on the firewall or the uninstallation will fail.

To uninstall the Virtual Machine Manager Server

  1. In Add or Remove Programs, select Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2007 Server, and then click Remove.

  2. On the Uninstallation Options page, do one of the following:

    1. Select Remove data if you do not plan to reinstall VMM server and want to remove the VMM database.

    2. Select Retain data if you plan to reinstall VMM server and want to resume managing hosts in the same host environment.

      Warning

Before uninstalling a VMM server that uses a remote VMM database that you want to retain and reuse, ensure that the remote SQL service is running and that is using an administrator account. Otherwise, the VMM server role will not be removed from the database and reinstallation will fail.

  3. On the Confirmation page, review the information, and then click Uninstall.

    Note

When you uninstall VMM server, the local VMM agent is also uninstalled; however, agents on hosts and library servers are not uninstalled. You must manually uninstall these agents locally by using Add or Remove Programs. Prerequisite software and firewall exceptions created during the installation of VMM server are also not removed.
