Setting Up Reporting

Before you can view and use reports in Virtual Machine Manager, you must deploy the Server Virtualization Management Pack for System Center Operations Manager 2007. Reports are generated by Operations Manager, but they can be opened in Reporting view of the Virtual Machine Manager Administrator Console.

Setting up reporting in Virtual Machine Manager involves the following tasks:

  1. Deploy System Center Operations Manager 2007, set up your reporting server, and install Operations Manager Reporting.
  2. Deploy the Server Virtualization Management Pack in Operations Manager.
  3. Add Virtual Machine Manager administrators to the Report Operator role in Operations Manager. Unless VMM administrators have this role, they cannot see and open reports in Virtual Machine Manager.
  4. Enable reporting in Virtual Machine Manager. Until you enable reporting, Reporting view is not added to the VMM Administrator Console. For information, see How to Enable Reporting in Virtual Machine Manager.

For step-by-step instructions about how to deploy the Server Virtualization Management Pack, see the Server Virtualization Management Pack Guide. You can download the guide along with the Management Pack from the Management Pack Catalog Web site (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=86411).
