Upgrading to DPM 2007

Applies To: System Center Data Protection Manager 2007

This section describes how to upgrade to Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager (DPM) 2007, including how to make any necessary upgrades to agents.

Note

For information about upgrading beta or evaluation versions of DPM 2007 to the released version of DPM 2007, see Upgrading Pre-release Versions of DPM 2007 (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=99140).

Because of the architectural differences between Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager (DPM) 2006 and DPM 2007, you cannot directly upgrade a computer running DPM 2006 to DPM 2007. However, DPM 2007 includes an upgrade tool that you can use to migrate your DPM 2006 protection group configurations to DPM 2007.

You can migrate protected data for servers running Microsoft Windows Server 2003 from a DPM 2006 server to a DPM 2007 server.

You cannot migrate data from servers running Windows 2000 Server.

You cannot migrate data from clustered servers.

Administrators can choose when during the transition to disable end-user recovery on the DPM 2006 server and enable it on the DPM 2007 server.
