This privacy statement explains many of the data collection and use practices of the System Center Global Service Monitor for System Center 2012Operations Manager service (System Center Global Service Monitor), and its accompanying software. This disclosure focuses on features that communicate with the Internet and is not intended to be an exhaustive list. It does not apply to other online or offline Microsoft sites, products, or services.

System Center Global Service Monitor is an online service that enables the monitoring of customer-provided Web sites by different Microsoft global points of presence (POPs) and returns the results back to the customer's on-premise System Center 2012Operations Manager software’s Management Group (Operations Manager). As described below, System Center Global Service Monitor customers configure URL Web Tests (Tests) using the Operations Manager software console and submit them to System Center Global Service Monitor. The Tests are then processed and executed by the POPs, and the results are returned to the customer.

Collection and Use of Your Information

The information we collect from you will be used by Microsoft and its controlled subsidiaries and affiliates to enable the features you are using and provide the service(s) or carry out the transaction(s) you have requested or authorized. It may also be used to analyze and improve Microsoft products and services.

We may send certain mandatory service communications such as welcome letters, billing reminders, information on technical service issues, and security announcements. Some Microsoft services may send periodic member letters that are considered part of the service. We may occasionally request your feedback, invite you to participate in surveys, or send you promotional mailings to inform you of other products or services available from Microsoft and its affiliates.

In order to offer you a more consistent and personalized experience in your interactions with Microsoft, information collected through one Microsoft service may be combined with information obtained through other Microsoft services. We may also supplement the information we collect with information obtained from other companies. For example, we may use services from other companies that enable us to derive a general geographic area based on your IP address in order to customize certain services to your geographic area.

Except as described in this statement, personal information you provide will not be transferred to third parties without your consent. We occasionally hire other companies to provide limited services on our behalf, such as packaging, sending and delivering purchases and other mailings, answering customer questions about products or services, processing event registration, or performing statistical analysis of our services. We will only provide those companies the personal information they need to deliver the service, and they are prohibited from using that information for any other purpose.

Microsoft may access or disclose information about you, including the content of your communications, in order to: (a) comply with the law or respond to lawful requests or legal process; (b) protect the rights or property of Microsoft or our customers, including the enforcement of our agreements or policies governing your use of the services; or (c) act on a good faith belief that such access or disclosure is necessary to protect the personal safety of Microsoft employees, customers, or the public. We may also disclose personal information as part of a corporate transaction such as a merger or sale of assets.

Information that is collected by or sent to Microsoft by System Center Global Service Monitor may be stored and processed in the United States or any other country in which Microsoft or its affiliates, subsidiaries, or service providers maintain facilities. Microsoft abides by the safe harbor framework as set forth by the U.S. Department of Commerce regarding the collection, use, and retention of data from the European Union, the European Economic Area, and Switzerland.

Collection and Use of Information about Your Computer

Because System Center Global Service Monitor has Internet-enabled features, information about your computer (standard computer information) is sent to the Web sites you visit and online services you use. Microsoft uses standard computer information to provide you Internet-enabled services, to help improve our products and services, and for statistical analysis. Standard computer information typically includes information such as your IP address, operating system version, browser version, and regional and language settings. In some cases, standard computer information may also include hardware ID, which indicates the device manufacturer, device name, and version. If a particular feature or service sends information to Microsoft, standard computer information will be sent as well.

Enablement of System Center Global Service Monitor

What this feature does:

It enables users of Operations Manager software to enable the System Center Global Service Monitor service for the monitoring of Web sites from different Microsoft global POPs.

Information Collected, Processed, or Transmitted:

The Configuration Wizard used to enable System Center Global Service Monitor collects the Subscription ID and Shared Access Key—previously supplied by Microsoft—from the customer. This information is then used to configure the communication between the customer’s Operations Manager software environment and the System Center Global Service Monitor service.

Use of Information:

Microsoft will use this information to configure the communication between the customer and the System Center Global Service Monitor service to ensure that all communication is authenticated and encrypted.

Choice/Control:

The customer has to manually install the System Center Global Service Monitor features by importing a set of Management Packs into their Operations Manager software environment and running through the Setup Wizard. To uninstall System Center Global Service Monitor, the customer needs to delete the System Center Global Service Monitor Management Packs.

Configuration of Tests and upload of configuration to the System Center Global Service Monitor Service

What this feature does:

It enables customers to configure Tests that will be executed by System Center Global Service Monitor via Microsoft’s global POPs.

Information Collected, Processed, or Transmitted:

The information includes Test configurations and URLs, expected result code, test properties, POPs where the Tests will be executed, and frequency of Tests.

Use of Information:

Microsoft will use this information to upload the configuration for the Tests to System Center Global Service Monitor. The Test configuration information is maintained on the Scale Unit Nodes System Center Global Service Monitor agent location in the POPs) until the configuration is modified by the customer. It is not possible to retrieve Test configuration information from the Global Service Monitor service: it is assumed that the customer always stores this information in the System Center 2012 Service Pack 1 (SP1) - Operations Manager (Operations Manager) management group. If Test configuration information is removed from Operations Manager management group or the management group itself is decommissioned, the Test configuration information will also be deleted from the Global Service Monitor service.

Choice/Control:

The customer has to manually install the System Center Global Service Monitor features by importing a set of Management Packs into their Operations Manager software environment and running through the Setup Wizard. To uninstall System Center Global Service Monitor, the customer needs to delete the System Center Global Service Monitor Management Packs.

Execution of Tests and results

What this feature does:

It executes the customer configured Tests at the POPs selected by the customer. The results of these Tests are then temporarily stored by the System Center Global Service Monitor service for transfer to the customer.

Information Collected, Processed, or Transmitted:

The results of the executed Tests are collected and temporarily stored in the System Center Global Service Monitor service.

Use of Information:

Microsoft will use this information to execute Tests on behalf of the customer. The results of those Tests will then be returned to the customer’s Operations Manager Management Group. The Test configuration information is maintained on the Scale Unit Nodes for until the configuration is modified by the customer.

Choice/Control:

The customer has to manually install the System Center Global Service Monitor features by importing a set of Management Packs into their Operations Manager software environment and running through the Setup Wizard. To uninstall System Center Global Service Monitor, the customer needs to delete the System Center Global Service Monitor Management Packs.

Transfer of results from the System Center Global Service Monitor Service to the Customer

What this feature does:

This feature transfers the results from System Center Global Service Monitor service to the customer who created the Tests.

Information Collected, Processed, or Transmitted:

The Test results are transferred to the customer’s Operations Manager software.

Use of Information:

The results of the customer-defined Tests are returned to the customer’s Operations Manager software and then deleted from the System Center Global Service Monitor service. When a customer’s Operations Manager software is connected to the System Center Global Service Monitor service, the customer’s System Center Global Service Monitor Test results are automatically deleted from the service after the Operations Manager software has acknowledged receipt of the data. Result data for a customer’s Operations Manager software that has not connected to the service will be kept for one (1) hour before being deleted from the System Center Global Service Monitor database.

Choice/Control:

The customer has to manually install the System Center Global Service Monitor features by importing a set of Management Packs into their Operations Manager software environment and running through the Setup Wizard. To uninstall System Center Global Service Monitor, the customer needs to delete the System Center Global Service Monitor Management Packs.

Subscription Data Collection and Logging

What this feature does:

It collects data specific to the Customer’s Subscription configuration.

Information Collected, Processed, or Transmitted:

The data collected includes:

  • Time Configuration was Received (UTC)

  • Subscription ID

  • Customer ID

  • Change made (Test Added or Removed).

Use of Information:

Microsoft will use this information to ensure that only changes requested by the customer are applied to the System Center Global Service Monitor service. The data collected will be used to ensure the correct Tests are being executed on behalf of the customer.

Choice/Control:

The customer has to manually install the System Center Global Service Monitor features by importing a set of Management Packs into their Operations Manager software environment and running through the Setup Wizard. To uninstall System Center Global Service Monitor, the customer needs to delete the System Center Global Service Monitor Management Packs.

Test Run Data Collection and Logging

What this feature does:

It collects data specific to the configured Tests executed on behalf of the Customer by the System Center Global Service Monitor Service.

Information Collected, Processed, or Transmitted:

The data collected includes:

  • Test Execution Time (UTC)

  • Subscription ID

  • POP_ID (Point of Presence ID)

  • Test_ID_Cloud (the ID of the Test in the Cloud)

  • Test_ID_on_prem (the ID of the Test on Premise)

  • Test Hash ID

Use of Information:

Microsoft will use this information for to ensure that only the Tests actually executed by the System Center Global Service Monitor Service.

Choice/Control:

The customer has to manually install the System Center Global Service Monitor features by importing a set of Management Packs into their Operations Manager software environment and running through the Setup Wizard. To uninstall System Center Global Service Monitor, the customer needs to delete the System Center Global Service Monitor Management Packs.
