ShowWindowsLive

Applies To: Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Vista

Note

This setting is deprecated. In Windows® 8, the Get Windows® Live Essentials item does not appear in the Start menu.

ShowWindowsLive specifies whether to display the Get Windows® Live Essentials item in Getting Started. Getting Started is displayed in the Start menu by default.

Get Windows Live Essentials provides users with an opportunity to download e-mail, photo-editing and movie-making utilities, and parental controls with Web filtering applications.

We strongly recommend that you leave the Get Windows Live Essentials item in place if you do not provide this functionality. Access to Windows Live Essentials helps users easily discover and download the Windows Live versions of these popular applications.
