Validating Windows Intune Client Software Deployment

Updated: December 17, 2012

Applies To: Windows Intune

This topic describes how to verify that the Windows Intune client software was successfully installed and is communicating with the Windows Intune service.

noteNote
To help ensure a successful Windows Intune client software deployment, review Deploying the Windows Intune Client Software.

Verify that the Client Software Is Installed and Running

In most circumstances, after a successful installation the client software automatically enrolls the managed computer in the Windows Intune service within 10 minutes. Some computers may take more time to enroll in the service and complete an upload of data.

To verify the installation of the client software by using the Windows Intune administrator console

  1. Open the Windows Intune administrator console.

  2. In the workspace shortcuts pane, click the Groups icon.

  3. In the navigation pane, under All Devices, click All Computers.

  4. Scroll down the list of inventoried computers to find managed computers that are communicating with Windows Intune, or to search for a specific managed computer, type the computer name, or any part of the name, in the Search devices box, and then press Enter.

What to do if an installation fails

If a client computer does not appear in the Windows Intune administrator console after two hours the client software installation probably failed. In this case, check for alerts by using the following procedure:

To check alerts for failed installations

  1. Open the Windows Intune administrator console.

  2. In the workspace shortcuts pane, click the Alerts icon.

  3. In the navigation pane, click System.

Alerts should display for any failed client software installations.

For more information about how to interpret error messages that are related to client software installation, see Troubleshooting Windows Intune Client Software Deployment and Enrollment.
