CDO for Workflow

Can I replicate Exchange 2000 workflow folders to Exchange 5.5 servers?

Replication of Microsoft® Exchange Server 2003 workflow-enabled folders to Exchange Server 5.5 servers is not supported. Exchange Server 2003 workflow is based on synchronous events, which Exchange 5.5 does not support. The workflow event sink does not process changes made on the Exchange 5.5 server. Changes made to the folder on the Exchange 5.5 server are not processed when the folder is replicated to an Exchange 2000 server. The workflow event sink only handles changes made on the local Exchange 2000 server. The event sink is designed this way to prevent duplicate workflow processes.

What is the replication behavior of workflow-enabled folders between Exchange 2000 Servers?

Replication of workflow-enabled folders is supported between Exchange 2000 servers. When you replicate a workflow-enabled folder, "Folder 1", to another folder, "Folder 2", on a different Exchange 2000 server, the following occurs.

  1. The first time that Folder 1 is replicated, the workflow process is replicated to Folder 2 and Folder 2 is workflow-enabled. Folder 1 and Folder 2 then contain the same data.

Note   Workflow actions are not fired due to changes caused by replication.

  2. If you change a property on an item in Folder 1 and trigger a workflow action, Folder 1 and Folder 2 will no longer contain the same data. When replication occurs, the item in Folder 2 will be updated, but no workflow action will occur in Folder 2.

  3. If you change a property on an item in Folder 2 and trigger a workflow action, Folder 2 and Folder 1 will no longer contain the same data. When replication occurs, the item in Folder 1 will be updated, but no workflow action will occur in Folder 1.

  4. If you change items in both Folder 1 and Folder 2 before replication occurs, both items will trigger workflow actions in their respective folders. When replication occurs, the item that was last modified will be replicated.

Note  Replication can overwrite workflow changes. To avoid unexpected results due to workflow actions occurring in replicated folders, allow changes only to the original folder, and restrict access to all replicas.

How do I get Just-in-Time script debugging set up, so I can debug workflow scripts?
