Configure anti-virus settings (Windows SharePoint Services)

Applies To: Windows SharePoint Services 3.0

Topic Last Modified: 2008-04-07

Use this procedure to configure the antivirus settings for Windows SharePoint Services 3.0.

You can activate antivirus measures only after installing a compatible antivirus scanner. In a server farm, you must install antivirus software on every front-end Web server in the server farm.

You can configure four antivirus settings:

  • Scan documents on upload: Select this setting to scan uploaded documents. This helps prevent users with infected documents from distributing them to other users.

  • Scan documents on download: Select this setting to scan downloaded documents. This helps prevent users from downloading infected documents by warning them about infected files. Users can still choose to download infected files, unless the option to allow users to download infected documents is not selected.

  • Allow users to download infected documents: If this option is selected, users can download infected documents. In most cases, do not select this option. Unless you have a specific reason to download infected documents, such as troubleshooting a virus infection on your system, do not select this option.

  • Attempt to clean infected documents: Select this setting to automatically clean infected documents that were discovered during scanning.
