Project Online Service Description

Applies to: Office 365

Microsoft offers flexible online service or on-premises solutions for project portfolio management (PPM) and for every day work.

Project management features are supported by using the Project desktop application; purchased either as a single download license for Project Professional 2013 or Office 365 customers can buy a monthly subscription license to Project Pro for Office 365.

Work management features are part of SharePoint Online in Office 365 and SharePoint Server 2013. Teams can easily create, assign and update tasks, add a timeline to their site and collaborate from nearly anywhere on nearly any device. The task information can be opened in Project Professional and Project Pro for Office 365 for additional project management rigor and reporting. The team tasks can also be imported into Microsoft’s PPM solutions for more advanced scenarios.

To learn more about Project Online, see Getting Started with Project Online.

To buy Project for Office 365, see Project Pro for Office 365.

Note

  • If you have Project Online and SharePoint Online subscriptions, you can add Project Web App to a SharePoint Online site. Learn more about setting up Project Web App on an existing SharePoint Online site

  • Since Project Online and Project Lite subscriptions provide the rights to access the on-premises Project Server, these services can also be used in a hybrid environment. Subscribers of Project Lite are granted the rights to access the same set of capabilities on Project Server as they are with Project Lite.
