Service Unavailable

When you launch the Management Console, if you only see the message "Service Unavailable", you may have accidentally removed a permission on the Management Console’s DCOM component.

To correct the Service Unavailable problem

  1. In Start/Run, type "dcomcnfg" and press Enter. The Component Services dialog box appears.

  2. In the Component Services dialog box, expand the following: Component Services, Computers, My Computer, DCOM Config.

  3. Select IIS Admin Service and right-click it.

  4. Select Properties, and then select the Security tab.

  5. In the Launch and Activation section, select Customize, and then click Edit. The Launch Permissions dialog box appears.

  6. Add Authenticated Users and grant Local Launch and Local Activation permissions.

  7. Click OK to return to Component Services. Dismiss the Component Services dialog box.

  8. Issue the iisreset command, from a command prompt, to restart IIS.
